Certificates of Approval are a legislative requirement for facilities
that:
release
emissions to the atmosphere,
discharge
contaminants to ground and surface water bodies,
provide
potable water supplies,
store,
transport, and dispose of waste.
They are designed to ensure that the industrial processes referenced above, do not adversely affect the environment, are carried out under the regulatory requirements of the Ontario Water Resources Act, the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, the Environmental Protection Act, the Pesticides Act, the Environmental Assessment Act, and the Environmental Bill of Rights.
