Our Story

Our name “ECOH” was inspired by a canoe trip in the Fall of 2003.  A thick mist had blanketed the entire lake where we had camped in Algonquin Park.  Standing on the shore in the early morning, feeling a little unnerved by the thickness of the mist, I called out to my canoeing buddies to come and look.  A repeating echo bounced back so clearly that we couldn’t help but take turns calling out to the loons across the lake and laughing.  It was one of those quintessential Canadian experiences –awed by the wilderness and humbled by the beauty – that left an indelible mark.

It was clearly in mind a few days later when John, Om, and I were toying around with various acronyms to better reflect our combined services – Environmental Consulting & Occupational Health. We agreed that “E C O H” as an acronym had potential, but it wasn’t until my wife Shelley designed a logo to capture the look of sound waves that ECOH became our brand. Since then, ECOH’s impact has reverberated across Canada as we help businesses and organizations of all sizes to protect their people, property, and planet.
