Project Technologist (BCA)-ENV


Job Description

ECOH is currently looking for a Project Technologist (Property/Building Condition Assessment) to join our Environmental team. As a Project Technologist, you will demonstrate sound knowledge and understanding of building systems including general knowledge of structure, building enclosures/envelopes, roofing systems, interior elements, site features, mechanical and electrical systems, etc.

Roles & Responsibilities

Here is what you will be doing:

  • Complete property and building condition assessments of properties (in accordance with applicable ASTM Standard) including existing buildings and structures (roof assemblies, exterior cladding assemblies, balcony assemblies, fenestrations, electrical system, mechanical systems, fire & life safety systems and parking garage structures) to identify and quantify observed deficiencies, and to determine the nature, extent and scheduling of repair/replacement work.
  • Carry out a review of architectural/structural drawings, previous investigation reports, repair/maintenance logs or history, site plans/surveys.
  • Carry out interviews of property representative(s), building maintenance/operations personnel and/or maintenance/repair/replacement contractors who are familiar and knowledgeable about the property and building/structural elements.
  • Develop a cost estimate table for any repair, replacement and maintenance of relevant building elements/components for the client specified analysis period.
  • Prepare written reports of findings, summarizing, collating, and interpreting the results/findings of the assessment.
  • Financial involvement and coordination of project.
  • Coordinate and manage external consultants or contractors for any specialist review completed as part of the building/property condition assessment.
  • Maintain QA/QC protocols.
  • Maintain health and safety protocols as well as quality control within the team.
  • Perform any other job-related duties that may be assigned.


Here are the skills you will possess:

  • College Diploma in Building Science, Architectural Technology / Science, Construction Technology or Civil Engineering Technology. Bachelor of Science or Applied Science is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of industry experience is preferred.
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance preferred.
  • Knowledge of conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments is an asset.
  • Knowledge of building envelope assemblies preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency using AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Knowledge of HVAC/electrical/life & fire safety systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with Building Condition Assessments in accordance with the “ASTM Designation: E 2018 – 15 Standard Guide for Property Condition Assessments: Baseline Property Condition Assessment Process” is preferred.
  • Must be able to read and edit technical specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Experience writing technical reports is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to safely transport and carry 20-foot extension or folding ladder, hand tools and PPE is required.
  • Willingness to work alone and/or in remote locations as required.
  • Ability to work from heights is required.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance & personal vehicle required (work related travel expenses will be compensated)
