Radon is a naturally occurring gas that arises from the breakdown of uranium in soil, rock, and water. Radon is notoriously difficult to detect due to its tiny molecular size. This makes it all too easy for radon to seep into homes through even the smallest cracks in foundations or other openings.

Once inside, long-term exposure to radon’s ionizing radiation can pose a significant health risk. Notably, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, making it essential for homeowners to be aware of the risks and take steps to mitigate them, especially when levels exceed 200 Becquerels per cubic meter (Bq/m3), as recommended by Health Canada guidelines.

How it works

1. Place the radon detector in the lowest lived-in level (or rooms you spend 4+ hours/day).
2. Leave it for the desired testing period.
3. After the testing period has ended, return the radon test kit in the self addressed envelope for lab analysis.
4. Get your certified report with your average radon concentration and next-step guidance.

You can test for Radon anytime, but Health Canada recommends testing during the heating season (fall/winter) because indoor radon levels tends to be highest at this time. Testing in the spring/summer can result in a falsely low radon level leavening occupants at risk.
